DİYARBAKIR - Trees in historical Ziraat Bahçesi (Ziraat Garden) located in the Tekel Neighborhood of Diyarbakır’s Silvan district have been cut down for five months.
One of the most important factors that spark the resistance of thousands of people who wanted to govern the city and themselves in the Silvan district of Diyarbakır province in 2015 was the systematic attacks on the nature of Kurdistan. The state declared “curfew” in the district against the demand of the people and attacked the people by using all war techniques. After the destruction carried out during the curfew, green areas have begun to be destroyed. Tens of trees in historical Ziraat Garden located in the Tekel Neighborhood of the district have been cut down by unidentified person or persons since December.
Water causes diseases
Furthermore, Silvan Stream, formed by the combination of many small and large resources around the district, has caused diseases. Wastes in the stream bed have caused bad smell in the green areas. The citizens stated that they are disturbed by the spreading smell and the attacks on nature of Silvan. The citizens also complained about the Silvan Municipality for not working even though it gets billions of liras.
